How does Artesunate (ART) impact the adhesion and motility of bladder cancer cells?
Label:chem
Topic
Tumor cell adhesion and motility are critical steps in the metastatic process. Inhibiting these processes can prevent tumor cell dissemination and metastasis.
Answer
Artesunate (ART) significantly inhibits the adhesion of bladder cancer cells to collagen and vascular endothelium. It also impairs cell motility by reducing chemotaxis, migration, and invasion in a cell type-dependent manner. ART achieves these effects by down-regulating the expression of key integrins (α2, α3, α6, β1) and integrin-related signaling proteins (FAK, pFAK, ILK). These findings suggest that ART can effectively reduce the metastatic potential of bladder cancer cells by targeting their adhesion and motility mechanisms.
