What is the safety profile of ferumoxytol when used in combination with regadenoson in stress cardiac magnetic resonance imaging?
Label:chem
Topic
Ferumoxytol is an intravenous iron supplement that can be used off-label as an intravascular MRI contrast agent. It has been proposed to enhance the amplitude and dynamic range of T1 reactivity, thereby increasing its sensitivity and specificity as a biomarker for tissue perfusion. One potential concern with ferumoxytol is the risk of hypotension when used in combination with a coronary vasodilator.

Answer
Regadenoson stress ferumoxytol-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (FE-CMR) is well-tolerated. Although some statistically significant trends were observed, the hemodynamic changes resulting from the combined effect of ferumoxytol and regadenoson were of small magnitude and not clinically significant. No severe adverse events were reported, and only mild, self-limiting symptoms were observed in a few participants.
