What is the role of Akypo® in the formulation for benzothiazole removal from textiles?

Label:chem

Topic
Akypo® is a surfactant formulation composed of alkyl polyglycosides (APGs) and is used in this study to enhance the removal of benzothiazole, an environmental contaminant, from textiles.
Answer
Akypo® forms micelles at a critical micelle concentration (CMC) of approximately 180 ppm. These micelles have a hydrodynamic radius of 2.8 nm and exhibit a Newtonian-like behavior at lower concentrations. The micelles transition from oblate ellipsoidal shapes to cylindrical micelles at higher concentrations. Akypo® alone achieves a benzothiazole removal rate of 4% ± 0.2% after one wash cycle, demonstrating its potential for pollutant removal from textiles.
