Does matcha powder (whole-leaf green tea) produce stronger metabolic effects than standard green-tea infusions?
Label:chem
Topic
Matcha is consumed as finely ground whole leaves, potentially providing higher catechin and fibre intake than brewed leaf infusions.
Answer
Animal data show that matcha (0.5–1 % in chow or 50–200 mg/kg gavage) reduces body and liver weight, decreases hepatic lipid droplets and inflammatory foci, and improves the LDL/HDL ratio more markedly than equivalent EGCG doses from brewed tea, possibly because of higher catechin bioavailability and synergistic fibre effects.
