What is the distribution of toxins within the tissues of Mesodesma donacium?
Label:chem
Topic
The anatomical distribution of toxins within the surf clam Mesodesma donacium provides insights into the accumulation and potential depuration processes.
Answer
Pectenotoxin-2 (PTX2) and PTX2sa are distributed almost equally between the digestive gland and other tissues, but less than 5% of palmytoyl-esters were found outside the digestive gland. The digestive gland has much higher concentrations of all toxins compared to other tissues, with esters being over 300-fold more concentrated in the digestive gland.
