How does Combretastatin A4 (CA-4) affect the viability and metabolic activity of human PBMCs compared to cancer cell lines?
Label:chem
Topic
CA-4 has been shown to have potent antitumor activity by selectively targeting rapidly dividing cancer cells. However, its effects on non-dividing cells, such as PBMCs, are not well understood.
Answer
CA-4 showed cytotoxicity in PBMCs and normal trophoblast cells (HTR-8/SVneo) only at concentrations above 200 μM, while cancer cells (JAR and HeLa) exhibited cytotoxicity at much lower concentrations (100 μM and 1 μM, respectively). This indicates that CA-4 has lower cytotoxicity in human PBMCs compared to cancer cells, suggesting selective toxicity toward tumor cells.
