Does vitamin K supplementation improve kidney function in CKD patients?
Label:chem
Topic
Clinical trials have tested vitamin K supplementation in chronic kidney disease (CKD), hemodialysis, and kidney transplant recipients.
Answer
No consistent benefit was observed. While supplementation (e.g., MK-7, 90–400 μg/day) reduced dp-ucMGP levels (indicating improved vitamin K status), no significant improvements were found in eGFR, creatinine, or proteinuria. Two studies even reported a decline in kidney function post-supplementation.
