What is the role of Ni3S2 in the Ni3S2/ZIS composite photocatalyst for hydrogen production and benzyl alcohol oxidation?
Label:chem
Topic
Ni3S2 is an earth-abundant and low-cost nickel-based sulfide with high conductivity and unique structural properties. It has been used as a co-catalyst to enhance the performance of photocatalysts by improving charge separation and providing conductive channels.

Answer
Ni3S2 in the Ni3S2/ZIS composite photocatalyst facilitates charge separation, accelerates reaction dynamics, and decreases the hydrogen reduction overpotential. It enhances the surface electronic structure of ZIS, leading to improved visible-light photocatalytic activity for benzyl alcohol dissociation to produce hydrogen and benzaldehyde. The optimized 3.2% Ni3S2/ZIS composite achieves hydrogen and benzaldehyde production rates of 4.342 mmol g–1h–1 and 4.213 mmol g–1h–1, respectively, which are 1.79 and 1.76 times greater than those of pristine ZIS.
