What is the effect of benzyladenine (BA) on the in vitro shoot multiplication and quality of Húsvéti Rozmaring apple scion?
Label:chem
Topic
Benzyladenine (BA) is a widely used cytokinin in plant tissue culture, known for its role in promoting shoot multiplication and elongation. The study examines the effects of BA on the in vitro shoot multiplication and quality of Húsvéti Rozmaring apple scion.
Answer
BA significantly increased the shoot multiplication rate, with the highest number of shoots (4.20 shoots/explant) observed at a concentration of 4 µM. The longest shoots (1.80 cm) were produced with 2 µM BA. However, BA application resulted in thickened stems and small leaves, indicating some negative effects on shoot quality. Thus, BA is effective for both shoot multiplication and elongation but may lead to undesirable shoot morphology.
