What is the role of NPHP3 in primary cilium formation and cancer cell resistance?
Label:chem
Topic
NPHP3 (Nephronophthisis 3) is a ciliary protein localized in the basal body and centrioles of primary cilia. Mutations in NPHP3 are associated with renal-hepatic-pancreatic dysplasia.
Answer
NPHP3 plays a crucial role in primary cilium formation and cancer cell resistance. It regulates PC formation through interaction with thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) and controls cancer cell viability under serum-deprived conditions. In this study, NPHP3 expression was found to be upregulated by VBL treatment and correlated with increased PC frequency and drug resistance.
