What are the absorption and distribution characteristics of disulfiram?

Label:chem

Topic
Disulfiram is an orally administered drug.
Answer
Following oral disulfiram intake, 80-90% of the dose is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Due to its high lipid solubility, disulfiram and its metabolites are widely distributed into adipose tissue throughout the body and readily cross the blood-brain barrier. In a study administering radiolabeled disulfiram to rats, the drug was identified in the kidneys, pancreas, liver, GI tract, fat, blood, and brain in decreasing order, among other locations.
