Why is 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine significant?
Label:chem
Topic
2,4,6-trimethylpyridine was identified from Actinobacteria and showed antifungal activity, also affecting the pH of the medium.
Answer
2,4,6-trimethylpyridine was identified through solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis as a volatile compound produced by Actinobacteria (specifically MH191 when grown on CYPS medium) that exhibits antifungal activity against S. sclerotiorum and increases the pH of the medium. It had not been previously identified from Actinobacteria.
