Silver perchlorate is a perchlorate of silver. It is a useful source of the silver ion and is often used to replace halides ligands with perchlorate in inorganic chemistry. Silver is a metallic element with the chemical symbol Ag and atomic number 47. It occurs naturally in its pure, free form, as an alloy with gold and other metals, and in minerals such as argentite and chlorargyrite.

We prepared the perchlorate salt of (S)-3 by alkylation of (S)-R-methylthio-2-(p-tolylsulfinyl)toluene 1 with MeI in the presence of silver perchlorate. 7b The resulting salt (S)-3 was quantitatively isolated by simply filtering the crude reaction mixture through a pad of celite, followed by washing with CH2Cl2 and evaporation to dryness15 (Scheme 2).
