Reagents and conditions: (a) KOH, EtOH, 80 °C, 90%; (b) oxalyl chloride, DCM, then NH4OH,; (c) Tf2O, TEA, DCM, two step 36%; (d) NBS, CCl4, benzoylperoxide, reflux, 97%; (e) NaN3, DMF, 85 °C (f) PPh3, DMF/H2O, 40 °C, 85% over two steps; (g) ethylsulf-onylethene, TEA, MeOH, 99%; (h) 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylphenyl-acetic acid, EDC, HOBt, NMM, DMF, rt, 61% over two steps. Enantiomerically pure products were isolated by chiral phase HPLC.
